Cash and Investment Portfolio Management

​​​​The Town invests cash balances arising from fluctuating cash flows, unspent capital funding, reserve and reserve fund balances. The Town is specifically limited by provincial regulation as to the nature and type of investments which can be secured.

Due to the limited risk of the eligible investments, the portfolio is managed by trained and experienced staff, and decisions are based on market availability, portfolio guidelines, town investment policy, cash requirements and availability.

Whenever cash is to be invested, a competitive process is followed to ensure the best return available is identified given the​ duration of the planned investment. Optimal yields, security and safety of the investment is paramount to our program.
