Winter Overnight Parking Restrictions

Our bylaw states cars must be off the road between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. between November 15 and April 15.

We thank you for your co-operation in keeping the roads free from parked vehicles during the prohibited times.

Along with the overnight parking restrictions, tickets will be issued as per bylaw 4574-04.T Section 3.2 (a) (xv)

(a) No person shall park any vehicle on any highway:

     (xv) so as to interfere with the clearing of snow from the highway.

It's your responsibility to make sure your parked vehicle is off the roadway before, during or after a snowstorm and between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. to allow for snow clearing and winter road maintenance.

Aurora Bylaw Services has partnered with York Regional Police for their annual Toys for Tickets campaign. In the spirit of the holiday season, parking tickets issued from November 20 to December 13, 2024 can be paid for by donating a new, unwrapped toy, gift card or food donation of equal or greater value to the penalty of your parking ticket. All toys, food donations and gift cards will be collected for York Regional Police’s Holiday Heroes campaign. Donations support children and families in need throughout Aurora and Newmarket.

The program excludes offences for “parking in a fire route,” “parking in an accessible parking space” and “obstructing an accessible parking space”.

Criteria

The value of the donation must be equal to or exceed the amount owing on the parking ticket. Toy(s) must be new, unwrapped and in their original packaging. Donations of more than one toy will be accepted. Cash will not be accepted.

Donations that total the early infraction payment will be accepted only within the early payment period. If your donation is less than the value of the ticket, you are required to pay the remaining balance.

Include your Receipt: Donations must be accompanied by original receipts. No photocopied or emailed receipts will be accepted.

Drop-Off

Donations will be accepted at Aurora Town Hall, Access Aurora, 1st floor, 100 John West Way. Donations will not be accepted after Friday December 13, 2024

Parking permits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Town of Aurora has parking permits available to park at Aurora Town Hall (100 John West Way), Queens Diamond Jubilee Park (18 Civic Square Gate), and Town Park (limited spots and restrictions apply).

Town Hall Parking

Residents and visitors can purchase a parking permit to park at Town Hall (100 John West Way) 19 parking spaces are available. Permit holders are required to park in the upper parking lot adjacent to John West Way.  Vehicles with valid permits may park between 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. year-round.

Queens Diamond Jubilee Park

An additional 21 parking spaces are available at Queens Diamond Jubilee Park (18 Civic Square Gate).  Vehicles with valid permits are only permitted between 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. between November 15 and April 15.

Town Park 

The Town offers 15 parking spaces at Town Park. Permits are available for a fee and on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a limit of one permit per family.

Parking permits for Town Park will only be issued to residents living on the following streets. 

• Wells Street
• Larmont Street
• Metcalfe Street
• Mosley Street

How it Works

The Town is introducing Occasional Use on Street Parking Permits (OUPP) where residents or visitors can apply online for up to 12 free parking passes per vehicle each year through GTECHNA’s web portal. The OUPP would assist residents who require an extra parking space for overnight visitors or require an extra space. This will allow residents and visitors of the Town to apply for, and receive, a parking exemption for the prohibitions of parking longer than 24 hours and parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

• 12 permits a year, per license plate.
• Permits are valid for 24 hours.
• Permits are free and available 24/7 online.
• Multiple day and plate permits can be issued at once for user convenience until maximum is reached.
• Permits are issued electronically and are automatically attached to the license plate - no print and display required.
• Permits will not be valid or issued during active snow events, which would include the day(s) before, during, or after a major event, when plowing or salting are taking place.

The permit is not an exemption from the remaining provisions within the By-law:

• No parking within 3 meters of a fire hydrant
• No parking within 1 meter of a driveway
• No parking within 15 meters of an intersection
• No parking in a fire route
• No parking left wheels to curb, park/stop contrary to sign, etc.

Issued permits are null and void in the event of inclement weather and/or the deployment of snow clearing/salting measures.

Please note: Tickets will NOT be cancelled if an error is made when entering your licence plate and/or Province/State information.

Restrictions

• Permits will not be valid if attached to commercial vehicle or to a tow truck.
• All vehicles must have a valid licence plates belonging to the vehicle it is attached to.
• Permits will be revoked during an active snow event.
• Permits will not be issued during an active snow event.
