Garbage, Recycling and Composting

Please place your garbage, recycling and green bins in a visible location at the end of your driveway and NOT on the roadway, sidewalk, or snowbank. 

Make sure to clear an area to place your bins out and keep them back from the road. Collection crews will not dig out or retrieve your bins from snowbanks.

Placing your waste and recycling bins on the roadway is a violation of the Collection Solid Waste and Recyclable Materials By-Law 5590-14 and GFL will not pick up any garbage or recycling bins from the roadway.

Place waste bins at the bottom of your driveway or on your lawn and not on the road

On windy days, the lighter contents in blue boxes can often be found blowing out of bins resulting in litter on our streets and on our neighbour’s properties. When debris and litter fall on a residential property it’s the responsibility of the homeowner to clean it up as per the Clean Communities By-law 6257-20. Please be considerate when packing your blue boxes and use the suggestions below to keep your blue box contents in their place.

• Place heavier items such as books and magazines on top of the lighter items. This should help prevent light blue box materials (such as paper) from blowing out of the bin and littering the streets.
• Bundle cardboard and newspapers separately. These bundles can act as a 'lid' for your blue box.
• On windy days, consider putting your recycling boxes out for collection in the morning, rather than the night before or skip that week's collection and place your recycling out for following week if your blue boxes aren't full.
• Please keep plastic bags/film plastic, styrofoam (including take out containers) and disposal coffee and soft drink cups out of the blue box. These items are not recyclable in our program and should be placed in the garbage.
• Don't overfill your blue box, keep material below the rim to prevent the wind from catching it and blowing it out of the bin.

There is no limit to the number of blue boxes residents can put out for weekly collection.  Additional blue boxes can be purchased for $15 tax included. Please call Access Aurora at 905-727-1375 to purchase a new bin. Bins will be delivered by Green for Life (GFL) within a week after purchase.

Please help to keep our community litter-free.

Starting on Thursday, December 5, 2024, Green for Life (GFL) will start to collect all recycling and garbage on the side streets. This change helps keep collections run smoothly during winter when back laneways become narrower from snow.

Mark Your Calendar! Starting Thursday, April 17, 2025 Green for Life (GFL) will return to collecting recycling and garbage in the back laneways.

As a reminder, please place your Blue Box, Green Bin and garbage at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day.
