Childrens Programs

The Town of Aurora's Community Services Department strives to provide a variety of recreational opportunities that are best for your child and their development through our innovative and active programming. We are committed to providing children in the community with high quality, age appropriate programming that focuses on physical literacy, creativity, childhood development, social interaction and fun.

We offer a wide range of Children’s programs for participant ages 5 to 12 years:

• Sport Programs
• Physical Literacy Programs
• Dance Programs
• STEM Programs
• Arts & Craft Programs

Note: Some of our Children’s programs require a parent or guardian to remain on-site for the duration of the program. 

Physical literacy has been identified by experts in physical education, sport, and even cognitive science as a key ingredient in raising healthy, happy and successful children. It provides the foundation for kids to enjoy physical activity and sports, but it also has far-reaching implications for their brain development, scholastic performance, and overall wellbeing. Research shows that it is very important to start developing physical literacy in early childhood prior to adolescence.

The basic recipe for developing physical literacy includes structured and unstructured play opportunities, combined with intentional instruction in fundamental movement skills, such as jumping, skipping, hopping, throwing, catching, etc.

The Town of Aurora's Children’s programs are run by highly energetic and enthusiastic instructors, as well as being First Aid and CPR trained. We also work with a number of experienced, professional service agreement contractors who are specialists in their respective fields. 

The Town of Aurora offers Camp and P.A. Day Programs throughout the year, in addition to Summer Camps during the summer months. Learn more about our Camp and P.A. Day programs.

• Dance shoes must be soft-soled, and the use of rosin is prohibited. No tap shoes or pointe shoes.

All Ages Dance Studio Drop-In: Explore the joy of dance in a welcoming and inclusive environment. This drop-in activity offers participants of all ages the opportunity to move to a variety of music genres, including hip hop, pop, jazz and more. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced dancer, you’ll have the freedom to express yourself, learn new techniques, and connect with others who share a love for dance.
