Weekend Weather Warning: Ice Storm on the Way
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for significant ice accretion from freezing rain, starting on Friday, March 28, 2025, through to Monday, March 31, 2025. The storm is expected to bring freezing rain, which could lead to power outages, hazardous road conditions, and increased property risks. It’s important to be prepared for up to three days (72 hours) without power or essential services, especially during severe weather events like this.
To ensure your safety and the safety of your family, here are some key steps to take:
- Gather Emergency Supplies: Ensure you have essentials like flashlights, batteries, a first aid kit, warm blankets, and non-perishable food.
- Charge Your Devices: Make sure your phone and other essential devices are fully charged. Consider a portable power bank in case you lose power.
- Create a Family Emergency Plan: Plan ahead for how your family will communicate if separated. Make sure everyone knows where to meet and how to stay in touch in case of an emergency.
- Stay Informed: Keep an eye on local weather alerts and stay updated on any changes to the storm’s impact.
Taking these steps can make a big difference during an emergency. Being prepared not only helps you stay safe but also gives you peace of mind knowing you're ready for whatever comes.
