Address / location of incident: Northern Dancer Lane, Aurora

Description: Central York Fire Services (CYFS) responded to reports of a house hit by lightning and on fire. CYFS fire crews first arriving on scene reported a fire on the roof.

CYFS fire crews quickly extinguished the fire on the roof. Electrical sockets were found blown out if the wall throughout the house. A thorough search for hidden fires within the walls and attic was conducted.

Cause of incident: The cause of the incident was by a lightning strike travelling through the electrical system.

Casualties / Injuries: No injuries to report.

Community Impact: None.

Current Status: CYFS has fully extinguished the fire.

Resources Used: CYFS responded with four trucks, 16 firefighters, and two Chief Officers. CYFS worked in collaboration with York Regional Police, York Paramedic Services, Alectra and Enbridge Gas.
