Central York Fire Services Incident Report - Preston Thompson Place, Aurora

Incident Type: Basement Fire

Date: October 3, 2024 Time of Call: 6:15 p.m. Ward: 3

Address / location of incident: Preston Thompson Place, Aurora

Description: Central York Fire Services (CYFS) responded to reports of a basement fire. The first arriving CYFS unit reported smoke showing from the front of the house on the first and second floor.

Crews conducted a search of all levels of the house and reported that everyone was out. A fire was located in the basement and was quickly extinguished.

Cause of incident: The cause of the incident was improper use of matches.

Casualties / Injuries: No injuries to report.

Community Impact: Preston Thompson Place was closed during the fire operation but has since been reopened.

Current Status: CYFS has fully extinguished the fire.

Resources Used: CYFS responded with six trucks, and a Chief Officer. Mutual aid was not required. CYFS worked in collaboration with York Regional Police, York Emergency Medical Services (EMA), Alectra Utilities, and Enbridge Gas. Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services provided coverage in the CYFS area while the fire was underway.
