Central York Fire Services Incident Report - Edward Street, Aurora

Date: February 9, 2025 Time of Call: 10:11 p.m. Ward: 1

Address / location of incident: Edward Street, Aurora

Description: Central York Fire Services (CYFS) responded to an activated fire alarm. The first arriving CYFS unit reported black smoke coming from a one-story building.

There were no occupants in the building. The crews adopted an offensive strategy and extinguished the fire.

Cause of incident: Unknown. Under investigation by York Regional Police.

Casualties / Injuries: No injuries.

Community Impact: A portion of Edward Street was closed for a few hours and has since reopened.

Current Status: CYFS has fully extinguished the fire.

Resources Used: CYFS responded with six trucks, 24 firefighters and a Chief Officer. CYFS worked in collaboration with York Regional Police, York Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Alectra and Enbridge Gas.

Fire Safety Tips: When a fire occurs, the top priority is to get outside. If possible, when you leave, close the door behind you to help contain the fire. Then, meet at a designated safe spot outside.
